Do You Believe?

In 1977 R & B recording artists the Pointer Sisters recorded a song, “You Gotta Believe”. The chorus of the song goes “You gotta believe in something, why not believe in me”? This is the very question God is asking His people…”why not believe in me”?

There are recorded cases in the word of God which point to His grace, His love, His power and His glory. We can look into our own lives and see His grace, His love and His power. Over and over and over God has proven Himself as protector, provider, healer and deliver, yet, we still doubt if He is capable of delivering us from our situations. What you have allowed God to do in your life is not the sum total of His ability. We don’t trust him to enough to turn over our cares, our worries and our concerns to Him. I Peter 5:7 says to cast call your cares (anxiety, concerns, worries, problems, issues) on Him because He cares for you.

God loves us with an everlasting love. His favor and grace surrounds us everyday. It is He who is our source and provides for us in every area of our lives. We have full access to His grace and mercy because they are new each and every morning. It is through Him we have the victory! It is up to us to believe the report of the Lord!

If you gotta believe in something, why not believe in the true and living God!

Waging War in Stiletto Boots

Cece Winans sings a powerful song about waging war on the enemy. She sings about taking territory and fighting unseen principalities. This song inspired me to write about we as women taking a stand against the enemy – in our camouflage stiletto boots!

Yes! We are waging a full-scale war on the enemy to redeem everything he has stolen from us. It is time to fight like never before. It is time to refocus and properly identify the right enemy. It is time to attack! Some of us are warring with the wrong people. There is discord in our homes, in our relationships and even in our ministries. Some of us are even warring in our ministries.

Do we not know who the real enemy is in this war? As believers we are all on the same team fighting the same battle to destroy the same enemy. Knowing your opponent helps to prepare you for battle. The sixth chapter of the book of Ephesians says it best: A final word: Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil. For weare not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places. Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm. Stand your ground, putting on the belt of truth and the body armor of God’s righteousness. For shoes, put on the peace that comes from the Good News so that you will be fully prepared.In addition to all of these, hold up the shield of faith to stop the fiery arrows of the devil.Put on salvation as your helmet, and take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere. (Ephesians 6:10-18 NLT)

I did a little research to see if I could identify some of those common denominators that connects us to these fictional characters. Caroline Marie Bradshaw better known as “Carrie” is often lead by emotions and craves acceptance from others. Miranda Hobbes is considered to be career-minded with a cynical view of relationships. Samantha Jones, we will just say she is non-judgmental and leave it there and Charlotte York Goldenblatt who is quite traditional, conservative and believes that love conquers all.

My perspective of Sex and the City is that it is built upon a premise that the characters are in search of that one thing which will make their lives better, fuller and richer. Because of the title one may think it to be sex, however, it is not. They are in search of what defines them as being a success. Because once they have attained that “successful” thing their lives will be better, fuller and richer.

I established a connection with the characters in order to give a visual that not only are common denominators in the personality types, but also we connect with their search. We can identify with their search for the one thing which will make our lives better, fuller and richer. As believers we already possess access to success because of our relationship with God, however, we often times subscribe to the world’s perspective of what makes us successful. Money, cars, big homes and whatever else we consider to be an outward sign of success.

A personal vision statement helps to provide focus and clarity as it relates to your life. Writing your vision statement can take you on an amazing journey of discovering why you are here on earth and what you are destined to become in this life. This process requires that you are very honest and transparent with yourself as it relates to your strengths, weaknesses and God’s will for your life.

You can create the life you want to live by beginning with writing a vision statement for your life. This vision statement is often referred to as affirmations or confessions. Habakkuk 2:2 tells us to write the vision and make it visible. The vision for your life should express and declare what is to come.

I John 5:4 says For whatsoever is born of God is victorious over the world; and this is the victory that conquers the world, even our faith. Isn’t it good to know that in spite of what it looks like you are victorious? Know it in your heart and speak it with your mouth.
